What we do

100+ years of pure backcountry focus.

We don’t make clothing, hiking boots, downhill skis or running shoes. Our focus is entirely on backcountry ski touring and ski mountaineering.

We’ve been making skis in the Austrian Alps since 1924, perfecting our craft and earning a reputation for quality, value and performance. We have an entire ski range lighter than many sidecountry brands’ lightest skis — built for the alpine lifestyle and long, adventurous days for ski mountaineers who regularly leave the sidecountry far behind.

Our mission

Performance, quality and value — without compromise.

Hagan prides itself on an unbeatable combination of performance, quality and value. We’re always refining our designs, materials and manufacturing to keep prices down while continually elevating quality. Our alpine touring skis and bindings are built with the industry’s most advanced materials and strictest construction standards, at genuinely reasonable prices.

We keep prices down by focusing on performance and value, then letting the skis speak for themselves. We do little marketing — word of mouth is our most effective advertising. Delivering the best value in backcountry skiing makes our fans eager to spread the word.

Our commitment to you

Reputation earned over a century.

Our aim is the perfect trilogy of performance, durability and weight. In Europe, our reputation has been earned and guarded through 100 years of innovation and an insistence on the highest quality standards. We’re relatively new to North America, where that heritage simply isn’t as well known yet.

We don’t do much marketing, and admittedly aren’t great at it — it isn’t our focus, so we may never be the hippest brand. If you place a higher priority on the quality and performance of the product than on the quantity and quality of the marketing, perhaps we’re the brand for you.

To the big companies, ski mountaineering is a curious aside — a few products at the back of the catalog, sometimes listed after clothing and shoes. You won’t find that at Hagan. We aren’t jumping on the ski touring bandwagon now that it’s cool. We built that wagon. We are Pure Ski Mountaineering.

Since 1924

It started in a wagon-builder’s workshop.

Hagan was founded by the two Hager brothers in Antiesenhofen, Austria in 1924. Facing the hard economy after the First World War — and foreseeing the switch from horse-drawn wagons to automobiles — the brothers moved from building wagon wheels to making toboggans and skis.

By the mid-1920s they were selling 500 pairs a year: classic solid-wood skis, cut from ash slats, boiled in water and bent over a heated iron mold.
